My students need resources as we transition from a traditional elementary school to a STEM school with a concentration in computer science immersion. The Drone and Makey Makey kits provide authentic computer coding experiences for students.

My Students
As a teacher in a low income school, the students I work with on a daily basis face many challenges both in and out of the classroom. I am constantly looking for ways to provide them with authentic learning experiences in the classroom. The students in our school aren't always provided the same opportunities as other peers their age.
I may not be able to control the hand life has dealt them, but I can control their learning experiences in the classroom.
My students have inquiring minds about the world around them and many of the topics we learn about in class. I try to find innovative ways to keep them inspired and motivated to learn day in and day out.
My Project
The materials included in this project will directly impact the learning experience of my students by providing engaging computer coding learning opportunities. Our school is transitioning to a STEM Computer Immersion Magnet School. We lack the resources to provide an array of different computer science learning experiences for our students.
The Parrot Airborne Drone kit will allow students the opportunity to program computer code to set the flight pattern for the drone.
The Makey Makey invention kits provide opportunities for kids to write computer code to bring inventions to life. They are able to program their inventions to move
I know that these resources will make learning come alive for my students. They will be able to see their computer coding come to life. Picturing my third graders programming and writing the code to fly a drone outside of our school brings a smile to my face. Having these resources in my classroom will show my students the real world applications of computer science.
