My Students
As a general education teacher and behavior specialist, it is imperative that I understand the challenges my students face before expecting a significant change in behavior and academic progress. Many of our students, in fact, the majority of our students face socioeconomic issues and distress. This economic issue is also plagues with single family homes, homelessness, academic challenges, and low self-esteem.
Our students, just like other students, find technology to be a support on their trajectory of life.
As the teacher, it is imperative for me to learn and implement technological advances to capture and support student interest. Technology is an awesome teaching tool and knowing how to adequately utilize technology further bridges the gap between teacher and student, school and home.
I get excited when I see my students learn. Therefore, I am always looking for advanced opportunities to encourage student growth through connection, experience, and technology.
My Project
ASCD empowers teachers to help students develop essential skills that extend beyond memorizing geographical locations and calculating square roots. Although these skills are important, I believe that learning how to support the whole child requires engaging students to explore their careers, contribute to their communities, and identify their interests.
ASCD Empower20 offers sessions and learning opportunities about a wide variety of topics, for every experience level and job role, including: school climate and culture, social emotional learning, STEAM education, exceptional learners and inclusion, and classroom management.
Students, when connected to learning, establishes a connection to the expected skills to learn.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
