This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hardworking, caring kids. Over 80% of my students qualify for the free and reduced-price meal program.

These are kids that have very little exposure to the arts, but a yearning to know more.

Many of them come from homes with parents who work long hours and are not able to afford the extracurricular activities that would enhance their children's life experiences. These are parents who want a lot for their kids but just don't have the means to provide extended learning opportunities.

For most of these kids, the only exposure to the arts that they get is exposure that they get in school. Unfortunately, the school budgets are also tight right now. I want to expose my students to as many art genres and art media as I can.

These are kids who are willing to put in the after school hours to complete a special project, if provided the materials needed to complete it.

My Project

I will use this Teacher Pay Teacher gift card to purchase access to new and innovative art lesson plans. My students have been in distance learning for the entire school year, and the format of all of my lessons have had to be adapted to accommodate this. I have been teaching for 20 years, but in so many ways this year has me feeling like a first year teacher again. I would love some new ideas for cross-curricular planning to help me finish out my school year. My students just received new art kits and I am looking for some new lessons to do with both oil and chalk pastels.
