My students need a functioning listening center. We need 5 iPod Shuffle devices on which I can load audio texts.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In our amazing and diverse classroom community we embrace all types of learners. Our days consist of persisting through challenging concepts without loosing the joy and love for learning. Providing students with multiple ways to access and show their learning is the key to making this work possible.
We are an inner-city public school where students with and without disabilities learn together in an inclusive environment .
In our community we have a very diverse population. Racial, ethnic, religious and socioeconomic differences make our school culture very unique and dynamic. We strive to level the playing field, so that all students have the opportunity to build background knowledge and learn from each other.
My Project
Throughout my career one of the greatest impediments to classroom functioning also has the possibility of being one of the greatest assets. Inherently plagued with technical and kid curiosity obstacles, the listening center has never functioned as it was originally intended. The possibility of issues are paramount: cassette tapes malfunctioning, Cd's skipping, players inconsistently working, kids pressing buttons, head phones and adapters not loud enough, too loud or not working. The list can go on. This translates to time wasted troubleshooting and interruptions with learning. With these Shuffles students will be able to access literature in audio format. They will develop their auditory comprehension and have the flexibility to review and move on at their own pace, unlike traditional listening centers where they all listen at the same time.
These iPod Shuffles are relatively low tech, by today's standards, but they can be quite an asset when used as a listening center.
I will be able to program a specific text, which will instantly eliminate the mystique of pressing buttons because students will have limited options. These devices will free my students up to listen to and focus on texts without distractions and with minimal malfunctions.
