Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Stephen Shapiro once said, "Too often, we try to fit in with the crowd. We play it safe. But innovation is about taking risks while being true to you. This takes confidence. And it takes the belief that your “style” is what the world needs and wants. Yes, taking this risk may help you stand out. More importantly, it may be the ticket to your success." My students come from a low-income households which measure their success by the simple measure of completing and graduating high school. My students are more than just a simple high school diploma. They are highly motivated individuals that are eager to learn, create and innovate new ideas using the technology that is available at their finger tips. I have a mixture of Hispanic and Asian students that look to solve problems that they deal with in a daily basis, as well as problems that others may be facing in other countries.

My Project

With Micro:Bits, my students will learn to code and interact with their environment through the onboard sensors, make sense of their findings, and utilize that information to create meaning and draw conclusions. Through a series of guided examples, students discover how each sensor operates and how to interact with it.

Students discover how easy it is to code and make meaningful projects.

From programming with displays to animation to binary and visuals and even to passwords and security, the students will enjoying and be engaged in everything that we can do with such a small item. They will then apply what they have learned when they get to build and program their own robots in the following unit.
