Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach the kindergarten English language learner class at a public school in Los Angeles. The majority of my students come from low-income households and are either new to the United States or have only lived here a few years and are learning the language. I also have students with various disabilities who could benefit from the various resources available through technology.
Despite the challenges they face, my students are eager and excited to learn.
Each day, my kinder students have a small group rotation time. I would love to make one of these an iPad center where they can access district sites that support English language arts, writing, math, science, social studies and social emotional learning. For example, iPad and Apple pencil will help my learners gain vocabulary when we learn about science, engineering and technology. They will be able to enjoy stories and songs that will integrate engineering and technology. The iPad will provide opportunities for my students to reinforce the various concepts learned throughout the school year and to become proficient in the skills needed to develop a strong academic foundation. My goal is to make learning fun, relevant and engaging for all.
