This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I currently teach in a run down school where technology is just a mere dream for both teachers and students. My students struggle everyday to read my writing on a scratched up chalkboard everyday. I want to provide them the ability to see what I write, bring books alive, and model lessons for them.
My students have recently arrived into the country.
Most of them have had interrupted education and are struggling to catch up to their peers. Even though we are in a high school setting my students are performing at a first grade level. They work very hard everyday and I want to do everything possible to help them achieve their goals. All of my students want to graduate high school.
I teach English as a Second Language. I teach them how to listen, speak, read, and write in English. The resources I currently have are very limited. Our school is very old and lacks the supplies and technology that is needed to teach in classroom today. We do the best we can with what we have.
My Project
To improve my students learning I am requesting a projector and a document reader. These resources will be so beneficial to my students. They are learning to speak, read, and write in English. Students learning a new language needs lots of visuals to help them make connections to what they know and what they will be learning. The document camera will allow students to see books that are read aloud, allow them to read along, see how assignments need to be competed, and be able to read my notes clearly.
The projector will not only work with the document reader but I will also be able to project visuals from the Internet that will help build background knowledge on topics we discuss.
My classroom currently does not have the technology that I need to help my students progress at the rate that I would like. If I had these resources I would be able to bring my classroom to life and engage my students more then ever.
If you help fund my project my students will be able to improve their ability to speak, read, and write in English.
My students can give presentation using technology that will help prepare them for future jobs .
