Help me give my students a break from their phones by giving them a charging station! I also have a lot of students who eat lunch in my room and continually ask if I have a microwave
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in the inner-city and qualify for free lunch because they are considered poor. Yet, they are resilient and ambitious. I teach in a health academy and all my students want to work in the health industry, some as medical assistants or techs and others as physicians and surgeons. One of my students cried the other day saying she is stressed by school, pressure, and the like but she keeps going because she knows she is the way her family can make it out of poverty. My students don’t take anything for granted. They live life on life’s terms and realize they make their lives what they are and what they will become.
My Project
My students struggle with focus and their personal devices are a big contributor to this struggle. If I were able to entice them to give me their devices to charge them, I believe they would be free from that distraction during my class instruction.
Also, many of my current and past students come to my classroom for lunch and they are constantly asking if I have microwave so they can warm up their food.
I would love to offer them a safe, secure, and comfortable place to eat with the luxury of warming their food without having to leave my room.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
