Inner City Meets Mother's Nature's Global Family

My project needs 1 Butterfly Pavilion, one Ladybug Land, one Root Viewer Garden, one Planet Frog, one set of 20 Watch-It-Grow Window Greenhouses, and one Clear Growing Crystals Class Pack.

Children in the Big Apple do not always get a chance to see nature up close. Children must be made aware of the interdependence on the planet of all species. I teach pre-k to 18 wonderful children in the Bronx. Most of the children come from low socio-economic backgrounds and many are second language learners. In our school, 100% of the students receive free lunch. Our families value education and are excited when they see their learning and being exposed to new things. I have noticed that many students who are coming to school for the first time, do not have a lot of prior knowledge when it comes to nature. My goal is to reveal to them the basic laws of nature and the risks to our planet posed by mankind. Children should be taught early the medical and intellectual breakthroughs in science. I am requesting a butterfly pavilion so the students can raise their own butterflies. They will have the opportunity to see the life cycle in action and will be able to make their own observations. I am also requesting a ladybug habitat to watch ladybug larvae change into adult beetles. A live frog habitat would allow the children to witness a tadpole's metamorphosis into a frog. I am also requesting an individual greenhouse for each child. The children would be able to watch life in action in their very own greenhouse. A root viewer garden would be used to watch seeds take root and grow.
