What do Mexico, Kenya, Zimbabwe, China, Bangladesh and Ukraine all have in common? These are some of the countries my students have immigrated from to build a better future for themselves in the United States. They have an array of cultures and speak several languages.
My students attend a large urban high school in a predominately low socio-economic neighborhood.
I usually provide many of my students with supplies, such as notebooks and pencils, but am not able to give them every resource out there.
The majority of my students are English Learners who will be the first in their families to go to college. They are highly motivated students who will go the extra mile to achieve their goals.
My Project
Using the products purchased for this project will allow my students to have a better understanding of the math concepts. The computer ink will allow students to have difficult concepts printed in color ink.
Using color in math to show the progression of problems is one of the best ways to help struggling students.
Being able to print resources for my students in color will improve their understanding greatly. The scissors are used to create foldables during the lesson. My students enjoy the mental break foldables provide during a lesson and are more likely to recall the information on colored paper. The scissors will also be used for matching activities that reinforce concepts from the lesson. The pens will be used for the lessons on the document camera. The pens are bold enough for all the students to clearly see the notes.
These materials may seem small or too insignificant to make a difference, but the smallest change in a lesson can make the biggest difference in student learning.
