My Project
My awesome scholars are located in Washington, DC. Although they face widespread poverty and a high crime rate in low-income and under-resourced areas, our school has a great tradition and great pride. Students are gifted intellectually, athletically, technologically, and musically.
Education is a long-term solution to poverty and outside factors and disabilities should not distract students with autism and ELL students from focusing on their creativity when reading, writing, and creating projects to ensure academic success.
It is important that we support students with their social-emotional needs. All students should be afforded the same opportunities to have equal access to vibrant posters, anchor charts, visual schedules, and differentiated documents for their unique learning styles and needs. It will help sped and low-level students learn, as they adapt to their individual learning disabilities.
Our kids have faced a number of challenges and hardships in and out of the classroom. Anchor charts that mirror highlighted steps and checklists will help navigate a range of academic challenges.
The visual schedules and interactive worksheets must also be lamented with Velcro strips added. Bins are used to organize center materials.
My Project
My students need ink for their anchor charts and individual special education resources that will be taped to their desks. The printer is used to create visual schedules, behavior token boards, TeachTown worksheets for autistic students, and more that are easier to decode in color in order to access learning. This includes the daily agenda and material for math, social studies, science, and adaptive skills. in our CES they have an in-class reference.
A print-rich environment will help them with whatever they need to succeed in reading class and foster skills needed for reading. Kids begin to discover cues that help them figure out words they see, which lays the foundation for reading.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
