This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a first year teacher I am excited to announce that I have 23 eager learners who are back in the classroom after a very tough year. Our school is located in Corona, Queens New York. This area was one of the hardest hit areas in NYC. About 98% of our students are English Language Learners and 100% receive free breakfast and lunch.
Majority of my class is made up of English Language Learners.
Despite facing some challenges due to being newcomers to the country my students are some of the most hardworking and reslient individuals you will ever meet. As a new teacher I want to make sure that their needs are met every day.
My Project
As a first year teacher during a pandemic times have been very hard for my students and I. Schools have suffered tremendously with budget cuts. These cuts are limiting the ESSENTIAL supplies teachers need. Every classroom in this school has a printer but now there is an issue purchasing ink.
My first graders are so happy to be back in the classroom ready to learn!
Most of my students are new to the country and I want to be able to provide necessary resources like handouts, visuals, and books for emergent readers. As a teacher I am constantly printing strategy charts, and resources to help my students. By having the necessary ink and paper for our classroom printer I will be able to continue to print everything from pages to practice hand writing, readers, phonics sheets, to working on fine motor skills of cutting, and gluing. everything in between.
Having ink will allow me to meet the individual needs of my students.
