Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class consists of 21 wonderful and curious students who are learning to read and use technology. Due to the pandemic, this is the first year my students have been in a consistent classroom since 2020. My students have so much potential and are missing some key resources. They work super hard and they are eager and excited to learn. We are a Title I school and all of our students receive free meals throughout the day.
My Project
My students are a wonderful group who have lived through unimaginable experiences during the Covid 19 Pandemic. They are experiencing a transition from learning at home to learning at school with other peers. My class has a significant need to practice social skills and engage in social emotional learning. The last time my students were in school was when they were in first grade, as a result they need to learn how to be around their peers again, play at recess, and need support with the grief they have experienced during this pandemic. This project will provide me with supplies such as printer ink and cardstock so I can print resources that will help me teach social emotional education. The ink will be used to print coloring pages for my "safe place" in the classroom. This is an area where students can sit and do quiet activities to reduce stress, With your help, I can also print inspiring messages on cardstock paper that will promote positive self image and self talk. Students will see growth mindset posters and positive messages throughout my classroom and hopefully internalize those messages. My goal is to be able to create a safe, positive, and healthy learning environment that promotes physical and mental health.
Social Emotional learning is so important but especially this school year.
With your support, I will be able to provide my students with a space that promotes mental health. Having printer ink available will remove a cost barrier for us and will allow me to print various coloring pages to reduce anxiety, positive self talk resources, and growth mindset resources for my students.
