My first-grade class is full of littles just learning how to read, write, add, and subtract! We need the necessary resources to ensure that these students learn how to read, spell, work with numbers, and so on before moving on to second grade. These kids also live for art lessons that require more than just crayons and markers. We are in need of new resources to be sure to make the most out of our time in first grade!
My students are the most enthusiastic, encouraging people I know.
They don't let anything bring them down. Despite the struggles they face, they are all sweet, creative, eager to learn, and love to help each other. Anyone walking into my room can see how warm, kind, and creative my firsties are. Now, it's all about prepping them for second grade! That's where generous people like you come in!
My Project
I have been working hard to expand my students' experience with as many different art tools and techniques as possible, as we do not currently have a specified "art time" at our school. I have found that by incorporating art into the classroom, their writing has become much more imaginative and their overall happiness in school has increased. They socialize more successfully as they make artistic suggestions or ask their friends for advice about their own work. This past year, I was able to introduce oil pastels, gloss-resists, and our first round of liquid watercolor paints (they were so well-loved that we are close to needing refills!). The entire class LOVED it all! Art is now one of their favorite times of the week! To ensure that students get a wide variety of artistic experiences, we need different tools. That's where the ever-awesome India Ink comes in, along with the bingo daubers!
In our classroom, we ENCOURAGE messes and creativity!
I know what you're thinking: "Who would want to mix 6-year-olds with ink inside of paint daubers?!" ME! The beautiful masterpieces I have witnessed my students create this year have only made me want to dive further into the land of art in order to support my students' creative, social, and emotional growth. I would love to use these "ink markers" along with the watercolors and other art supplies we currently have to create new artwork. I have learned that the messier the project, the better the results usually are! I can't do it alone, though. That's where awesome people like you come in!
