Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students work tremendously hard throughout their daily routine that they need a break, a calm down moment in which they can reminisce about their day. Our Kindergarten classes uses an open pod to separate the classes. My students see the other classes pulling out a
plastic sandwich bags with playdough and toys given to them by the Math coach at the beginning of the year as a stimulus tool to use during academic time for practice of building, forming letters, and etc.
My students did not receive the same treats. The other classes also receive snacks, and my class does not. I see my students watching them and wanting to do the same things. I want my students to enjoy a period of the day when they are venturing through molding playdough and receiving treats. My students deserve this period of the day because they work extremely hard throughout the day. My students are coming from a VPK class of play to a Kindergarten class that expects much from them at their age. My student test well each year, they deserve an end of the day or mid-day break while still learning and expressing themselves through play also.
