According to the Governor's Office of Student Achievement, students that attend our Title 1 school are simply "beating the odds"! Although the majority of our students come from low-income households, with approximately 93% receiving free and reduced lunch, the Governor's latest Grades Report states our "students' academic growth is higher than 83% of schools in the state". In my 6th year of teaching, I am proud to be serving in a school where students can succeed.
I have learned that Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed.
Booker T. Washington
In my first grade class of 24 students, about 40% are learning English as a second language. Sixty percent of my kids are Hispanic, with families coming from Mexico, Central and South America. Other families include Asian, Indian, African American, White, and Multiracial. We are quite a colorful crew. I believe respect and appreciation for diversity come naturally for young learners, and take priority in cultivating our integration by embracing cultures from all over the world.

My Project
Before students are set off to work independently, every lesson begins with students seated together as the teacher explicitly teaches each learning objective. From math to science, reading, writing and social studies; the teacher first models, then guides students in their learning. Student engagement is vital for success. Your donations will help to create a comfy space for students to engage and participate in each and every lesson- 5 times 180 days; for many years to come.
Best practices advise teachers to keep students in close proximity during mini-lessons.
Help me get my students out of their desks seats and onto a plush rug where they can really focus on their learning.
