Help me give my students the necessary resources to aid their transition from elementary to middle school math.

My Students
These highly energetic rising 6th graders are more visually inclined and learn best when physical objects are accessible to help them make sense of problem-solving. I therefore desire to utilize effective best practice strategies that will allow me to meet their learning strengths and give them the best opportunity to continue to grow and develop in their conceptual understanding.
However, there may come a time when our students experience a disconnect when transitioning to middle school, and the strategies that accommodates their learning styles becomes a lost art; therefore we must find out how restore the structure in which they were successful in.
These students come from various cultures and backgrounds and will benefit from being exposed to the world that they have yet to experience.
Therefore, when they are engaged with resources and learning experiences outside of their cultures and socio-economic realms, they will become more well-rounded and positioned to be succeed in 21st century learning experiences.
My Project
Transitioning to middle school brings challenges both socially and academically. Many students experience an easier transition when the resources that they utilize are aligned with the resources that shaped their academic development and conceptual understanding.
Particularly with math, many student experience a disconnect from elementary to middle school concepts and structures.
Although there are gaps in the alignment from the 5th to 6th grade math standards, an integration of literacy will provide the necessary stability and consistency to aid in the transition. Therefore, when learning new material, there will be structure in place to make relevant connections before the concept is understood.
As a result, I will utilize the "How-To Guide for integrating CC in math" and the"Common Core State Standards Math Warm-ups" as a means implementing research-based strategies geared towards the middle school transition. Also, the "Math Readers for Middle School" provides high interest readers that highlights mathematical concepts in a fun way. As well as problem-solving activities and visual representations. Finally, the Mark Twain's "Common Core Math Workout" will provide guidelines and structure for independent practice and morning work and the "Kit Math Package" will give them the opportunity for practice.
