Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have been beaten down by life. I wish I could say that my students are motivated and eager to learn. Many of them are homeless or in foster care and most of them work. Yet they are driven. They are determined to get a HS degree. They come to school having slept very little and worked the evening before. They want a better future for themselves and have big dreams.
My Project
Many of my students don't have access to all forms of media. Most of them only have access to a smart phone and the apps they hold limiting them to the information they consume.
An informational lunch will allow my students to listen to current events while at lunch.
Once we come back to regular circumstances in school, it will be interesting to see students listen to current events while having their lunch and express their opinions regarding what they are listening to. Hopefully this sparks interest for them to follow up on doing more research on their own.
