Informational Leveled Texts for Our Third Grade Researchers
My students need access to leveled informational text to support them in science and social studies. Scholastic offers rich mentor texts and leveled student text that connect to our integrated ELD units.

My Students
Ms. Campos and I have classes that consist predominantly of all English learners. Students have been in a bilingual program and 3rd grade is their first year with 100% of instruction in English. The majority of our students are struggling readers.
As we implement a balanced literacy program, we are constantly impressed by our students' eagerness to push themselves to become better readers, writers, and English speakers.
We use Fountas and Pinnell and SRI to assess reading levels and you will often hear our students setting goals to increase their Guided Reading or Lexile levels and helping one another check for understanding or tackle tricky words. Our students love spending time in our classroom libraries and wish we had a bigger selection of leveled texts to choose from!
My Project
This project will give our third graders access to informational books at their reading levels, which will support their reading growth through ELD integrated units. The majority of our students are below beginning of the year benchmarks for reading and the 2nd grade levels are more appropriate for them at this time.
Providing students with informational text at their independent and instructional levels allows them to accelerate their reading growth while accessing the content and it is our goal to get students to 3rd grade benchmark and beyond, while fostering a love of reading.
Both Ms. Campos and I are new to the school and we inherited classrooms with old books that cannot be leveled or are too challenging for the grade level. Our students will be thrilled to have a greater selection of texts that they can read.
