My class loves reading! This year they all prefer nonfiction and informational literature.
We are in a K-5 elementary building in a low income, high crime area.
My students have a love for nonfiction reading materials. Out of my 24 students, 18 are boys! So we have an overwhelming need for sports and gross books! I often give students our classroom books to keep because they don't have books at home.
My Project
My students need a variety of informational books for research projects and computer mice. We have a need for the animal and sports book. The students helped me pick out the titles! We have access to lap tops, but not to mice. At third grade, the students prefer mice to touch pads! I plan on children reading our new books and creating research projects and reports.
Our project is important because students in third grade are reading to learn and need more access to updated non fiction reading materials.
With the adoption of the Common Core Standards, there is more of a need to incorporate informational literature.
