Information Seekers: We Need Access to Nonfiction Reading!
My students need materials for their classroom and take home reading book baggies.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Corelli's classroom raised $306
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love learning. They come in every morning with a smile on their face, full of enthusiasm about what the day in front of them holds. The most significant thing about them is how much they love their school. We are part of a school community where the school is brand new. The school we are a part of started a little over two years ago and my students were the inaugural class here. They are the first group of students to start the school and they are going to be the first class to graduate. They feel a certain pride being the original class here, they wear their school polo shirts with honor, and they love being a part of our community.
As wonderful as our school is, because it is brand new, it is extremely limited in its resources.
The school is small, which makes for an amazing learning community, but because we are small and new, the funding we get is very limited. We are desperately in need of so many supplies and we need your help.
My Project
Reading is a huge part of our learning in class and at home. My students read everyday in school and they bring a book baggie home every night to read with their families. They look forward to reading time and love packing up their reading baggies to bring home to read to their families. Our library is very sparse because it is a new grade in a new school. The biggest thing that the library is lacking is nonfiction books and hands on materials. My students have a variety of interests and, due to the fact that this is in inclusion special education class, are reading a variety of levels. My library does not support these interests or these levels. My students love to learn about animals, insects, sea life, and science. We have no books to support these interests. The only way I am currently giving them books on these topics they love is by printing books, borrowing from my local library, or buying them myself. Any hands on or dry erase materials they need I am making myself.
I really need to engage my students in nonfiction reading by supplying them with their own books on topics they love.
With your help, we can build nonfiction reading baggies full of these books and dry erase materials to increase their comprehension and word solving. My students eyes light up when I bring new books to school from my town library. They can't get their hands on them fast enough. Imagine how they would feel if they got to have books of their own, shop from their own classroom library, and share these high interest books with their families each night. That would make my little information seekers so happy!
