My Students

My piano students come from a wide range of backgrounds; we have piano majors, those who have never had a music class before and everyone in-between. We learn piano together in high-energy classes of twenty and experience collaborative learning and music-making at the piano. In our beginning classes, we learn essential piano technique, music notation and exciting repertoire. Our intermediate students hone their skills and get out of their comfort zone as they become fluent music readers and collaborative performers. I prepare our advanced students for further piano study in high school through a number of solo and ensemble performances and contest opportunities designed to bring out the musicality in each student.

This year, we welcomed one of our largest classes of incoming piano majors!

Their enthusiasm and potential are infusing our department with excitement for the school year. Some of our piano majors are so excited to be here that they give me a "thumbs up" several times during classes! All of my students have expressed a deep love for the piano and a desire to learn how to play. I'm so lucky to be able to work with them all this year!

My Project

As our piano program continues to expand, all of our keyboards are in use for 5 hours a day, every day. This is a significant amount of wear for a keyboard and all of our keyboards have been repaired several times. However, with budget changes and the increasing age of these instruments, it is no longer feasible to have them repaired.

Many of the keyboards in our piano classroom are older than our middle school students and need to be replaced with industry-standard digital pianos.

When our keyboards break or malfunction, not only does it cause a long distraction during our class time, but it results in a student not being able to participate fully in the class. New digital pianos prevent this problem by increasing class time and keeping the learning process smooth.

This project will fully fund one digital piano that will fully replace one of our 14+ year old pianos. These instruments obviously have a long life span, so your purchase will serve the pianists in our department for many years to come! Can you help give our students updated and fully-functional digital pianos to use in class?
