This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in an impoverished area of South Los Angeles. All of my students come from low-income families. We are a Title I school where ninety-nine percent of our students receive free meals. My students always try their best at everything and anything, despite the challenges that they face in their daily lives.

They are already not expected to have it as easy as others, but we learn that with hard work and consistency, they can be "unique" or different from the rest.

My students are so eager to learn that it makes coming to work easy!

My Project

Recess is my students' favorite part of our day. This is their chance to run around, socialize, or use their imagination. Living in California, you never know what the weather will be like. Sometimes we have recess outside and sometimes we are inside depending on the weather and heat index. Usually, for inside recess, we watch movies or play on the 4 computers we have but this can get really boring.

Recess play teaches cooperative learning and teamwork which are crucial to the classroom environment.

My students need engaging activities to do while stuck inside the classroom.

I am requesting board games, card games, and other fun activities to make indoor recess an active and productive break. All my students will be able to use these resources during indoor recess instead of playing computer games. These games will promote active play and problem solving which will help students continue to improve their skills, even during recess!
