Indoor Garden

Help me give my students raised garden beds and seeds for an indoor garden to learn from and to be surrounded by greenery during the winter months!

My Project

My students learn best by having real-world examples in front of them and making connections. Many of my students are also diagnosed with ADD/ADHD and/or anxiety. I have found that having various activities throughout class keeps them more engaged and focused. Having greenery throughout the room calms some of their anxiety as well. Tending to the plants at home and in the classroom teaches students many life skills about responsibility and patience to prepare them for life after high school.

Using plants and aquariums in my classroom aids in multiple units across the curriculum including, ecosystems, biomes, photosynthesis, sustainability, and more.

I intend to incorporate fish aquariums into the garden to aid in the demonstration of nutrients in water benefiting the plants we grow.

Many of the materials I am asking for can be used year after year with minimal waste products. I teach biology, earth science, and environmental science, and these materials would benefit close to all of the students in our entire high school!
