My Students
My students are so excited about this year and the fun activities that we have planned. We have a lot of fun, but we also understand that hard work is necessary to learn. In my current class, 15 of 17 students are currently performing below grade level in both math and reading
These students were in kindergarten when COVID started, and as a result, some have missed out on some fundamental building blocks that we I am hoping to catch up with this year.
I hope to focus on these skills through facilitating small groups in my classroom and using technology that provides individualized education and practice to address each students' strengths and areas where they may need more support.
My Project
In my classroom, 15 out of 17 students perform below grade level in both math and reading. As a result, I am dedicating a significant amount of time each day to facilitating small groups to work on specific areas with deficits to help these students achieve maximum growth. I often see ideas for both math and reading centers on teachers pay teachers and would love to be able to purchase center-specific curriculum and supplies to use with my students as well as extension activities for my 2 students who would benefit from that form of individualization.
Small groups have been very effective in working with my students, but developing plans for them have been difficult and time consuming.
The deficits that my students have come from varied areas, which is what makes planning so difficult. I would love to purchase lessons for letter names and sounds, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, and comprehension, as well as number sense and basic addition and subtraction. It is my hope that I can use this to vary our centers enough to keep authenticity and excitement in their learning.
