This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My middle school students study at a school in Florida. Most of my students come from Hispanic families who recently settled in our state. These families are not affluent. Many families cannot afford basic supplies such as school uniform, pens and pencils, calculators, headphones and bookbags. However, our students are polite, smart and eager to learn. I teach math to the eighth grade. I also have an eighth grade homeroom. I coordinate math lessons in sixth, seventh and eighth grades.
My Project
Part of middle-school math instruction is delivered through computers. The great advantage of online classes is that lessons are individualized, based on the strengths, weaknesses and interests of each particular student. As I mentioned earlier, many of our middle school students cannot afford to buy headphones for class. We prefer each student to have their own pair of headphones. This cuts down on ear infections and on lice outbreaks. I teach approximately 100 students in 8th grade. I would like to give headphones to our needier students. The headphones that I selected are recommended by a colleague who uses them in her class: I have tried them and I know that they transmit sound very well and that they are tough.
