I teach special education students in a low-income/high poverty school district. I have 15 students in my classroom this year. They are an amazing group of students, full of personality and love to explore. I have 8 boys and 7 girls. Luckily, some of my students come from households where they live with both parents. However, the majority live with a grandparent or an aunt or uncle because they have a parent that is in jail.
Despite their obstacles in life, they come into my class with a smile on their face and ready to learn.
The majority of the students in our school have stories that will break your heart. Our goal is to make our school a place where students feel safe, cared for and loved.
My Project
Currently, the computers in our classroom are outdated and very slow and they tend to cause a lot of anxiety in my students. I teach special education students from 2nd grade to 5th grade. Each of those students have individual academic needs and using computer programs helps enhance their educational process. It is my goal to make learning fun and to create assignments that are geared towards their interest and academic needs.
Technology transforms the learning experience, it empowers students to be more creative and be more connected.
The teacher becomes the encourager, adviser and coach. The Chromebooks will allow my students to have access to an incredible amount of new opportunities.
