Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a Title I public school in a diverse community. Our school is one of seven high schools in our city and has a student population of roughly two thousand children.

My students deserve a well-stocked art classroom and a variety of materials to better explore their world and learn about life through the arts!

As a one hundred percent free lunch district, resources are always extremely limited. My yearly budget is two dollars per student which makes it very difficult to provide students with interesting, engaging, and creative projects.

Multiple times over the year, I purchase supplies out of my own pocket to provide students with new experiences, but these projects would help me to reach all students. Just this year alone, I hosted a gallery walk where the artwork of over 500 students was on display. Artists from all walks of life were represented and showcased.

My students are creative and love to learn about art through the exploration of materials. They love hands-on, active, and engaging projects. Truly, they are my inspiration. The relationship we create and maintain is one of the main reasons I continue to give my all in an inner-city school!

My Project

These materials will be used for students to engage in distance or hybrid learning in the fall. Students are not permitted to share supplies so with the availability of personal supplies students will not only be able to stay safe, they will also have the option to choose from multiple supplies to complete art projects. Students who have chosen to stay remote this year will also have equitable learning materials to be engaged and accountable for their learning. These can be used in the classroom as well as at home and will provide students with the proper materials to be creative during this challenging time. Distance learning has proven to be frustrating and difficult for many students and families. These individualized materials will help them to be organized and ready with the tools to be successful.
