My Students
My students come from a high-poverty low-income community, but they do not let this hold them back. Some of my students' parents work two to three jobs to take care of the bare necessities of everyday life. While their parents want the very best for them, the extra things in life may not be readily available to them. This includes materials used to enhance education.
My students have faced many challenges in their young lives where school tends to be their only constant.
In our first grade classroom, we like to keep things exciting. There are a lot of important skills that my first graders need to master before they are ready for second grade. They love working with each other and learning new things!
My Project
We may not know what the school year will look like but we know for sure that teachers and students can't wait to get back into the classroom! As we get our brains geared up for fall learning, we know that our new normal will lend itself within the changes within the classroom. Students will need individual supplies to keep them safe and healthy while learning. If my students have their own supplies, they will be able to social distance and won't have to share materials.
Regardless of whether my students will be engaging in in-person learning or virtual learning, there are various materials that each of them need in order to be successful for this upcoming year.
I want to create individual bins for each student. The bins will contain daily supplies such as their own crayons, pencils, colored pencils, markers, glue sticks, and pencil sharpener. To assist with math, the bins will also contain math counters, a dry erase number line, and counting cubes. Last but not least, students will have their own dry erase board with a marker and eraser. These bins will work great whether the students are at school or at home, providing them with the materials needed to succeed.
