This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As I begin my 10th year of teaching, I am continually inspired by the eager learners who walk through my classroom door each year. Their enthusiasm for starting a new journey of learning is both motivating and heartwarming.

Teaching in a Title 1 community means that for many of our students, the classroom is one of the few places where they can experience the richness of learning.

Ensuring that this experience is tailored and individualized is critical for their success. However, given the high demands placed on teachers and the limited state funding for supplies, achieving this goal can be a challenge.

The items on my list are consumables that students use throughout the year. I strongly believe in fostering student ownership of classroom materials, so once these items are received, they become the students’ to keep. This not only instills a sense of pride in having their own personalized learning tools, but by providing these resources at no cost, we also create an equitable learning environment—one where economic barriers are removed, and every student has access to the tools they need to succeed.

In addition to individual supplies, classroom supplies and student furniture are also essential resources that are heavily used by students throughout the year. Replacing these items at the start of each year is necessary to ensure that students feel they are deserving of fresh, high-quality classroom materials.
