Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my 4th grade Dual Language class all live in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood within the diversity of New York City. Many come from low income families and have yet to have the opportunity to explore the neighborhood around them, let alone anywhere outside their neighborhood. They come to school ready to learn and engage in meaningful experiences. It is part of our school's mission to prepare our students to be a part of society and to succeed in education.

My students are on the path to bilingualism, which will help them succeed in so many ways from here on forward.

Within the class there is a large range of abilities, proficiencies, characteristics, and personalities. My students are special because they each bring new and different experiences to our class.

My Project

Students across the state are having to deal with a different type of school year. With the possibility of remote learning or hybrid learning, parents are struggling in more ways than ever before. My students come from low-income families and yearly struggle to gather basic school supplies throughout the year.

We don't want our students and families to worry about buying materials and just focus on education.

With new guidelines for the health and safety of students and teachers, communal supplies are a thing of the past. I'm asking for supplies such as erasers, Post-its, crayons, color pencils, sharpeners, and pens, to be able to give each student an individualized pencil case filled with basic school supplies they'll need for the year. This will help take the stress off of families to gather school supplies during a difficult time.
