Students in the special education inclusion classroom have varied needs, both academically and behaviorally. Students with autism, Down syndrome, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, anxiety, auditory sensitivity, sensory processing disorder, and specific learning disabilities are included in the population of students served in my classroom.
This year, I am building my manipulative library to include resources for individual students.
This year is unique in that we can't share a lot of learning tools as we have in the past. My math students need personal kits to grow in their understanding of mathematical concepts.
My Project
My students need to use math manipulatives to support hands-on learning of concepts such as fractions and multiplication. This year, we cannot share the tools we would typically use. I'd also like to get some visuals the I can model for the entire class. A set of magnetic base-ten blocks will help me to share and model for my students without the need for sets of manipulatives. Individual sets for fractions will help my student conceptualize what they are learning. I want to continue to support my students during a time when there are some barriers to using the typical tools I use for instruction.
