Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status.

These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Many of my students have experienced trauma in their lives and have a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and learning disabilities. My average student reads at the pre-kindergarten level.

My classroom lacks workbooks, basic supplies, and has minimal technology. Special Education Teachers are expected to deliver excellent instruction with individualized instruction but are not provided the materials to do so. Your contribution will help to fill in the void within my students' lives.

My Project

My students need these materials for reading and literacy centers. Many of my students struggle to sit and will benefit from the Fidget Disc to remain focus during literacy small group instruction. The disc will provide my students with movement and tactile stimulation without ever leaving their seats!

The Sony - ZX Series On-Ear Headphones will provide my students the opportunity to work independently while using technology.

During literacy centers, students will work on websites that will reinforce the skills and strategies that we have worked on during one on one instruction. These websites will track their progress so that I can progress monitor their individual growth.

In addition, the Hear Myself Sound Phone will allow students to listen closely to their own reading while working in a small group.
