The young artists at our elementary school are amazing! They are kind, creative, and hard working, and they are so engaged in art, even in these incredibly challenging times. Through their art, students share each day about how they see themselves, what they are afraid of, and what they hope for!
My Project
This is a hard time for all of us, but imagine being 6 years old. How do you express the worry and fear that you have? How about the hope and joy? Art has never been more important than it is now as a tool for students to learn and grow through creative self-expression.
In our art classes, students use art to identify and express emotion, tell personal stories, share about their identities, gain inspiration from artists of color, and tap into their imaginations!
However, the pandemic poses two big challenges with art supplies. First, students at school cannot share art supplies, so each child needs their own materials to safely create. Second, we have students learning at home who may not have access to the supplies we have at school. In order to provide equitable access to arts learning, we need to send art materials home to our virtual learners.
This number of art supplies is simply not in our school's budget. Your support will help ensure that all students have access to the self-expression, creativity, and joy that the arts can uniquely provide!
