Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach in a Life Skills classroom where we use a lot of various items. Anything from disposable cups to puzzles.
Sometimes non-traditional classrooms utilize non-traditional supplies, especially those supplies not typically provided the school.
With that being said, we use a lot of pictures and flashcards for communication, both expressive and receptive. As such, we laminate the cards for durability. Heavy duty laminating pouches work best for daily use of these cards.
We also use paper cups for personal hygiene as well as providing a means for kids who cannot access a drinking fountain to get a drink.
Lastly, I have students who are learning shapes as a pre-geometry skill set. Having a fun way (geometric tiles matched to a picture) is a great way to learn about shapes as well as provide eye hand coordination, language skills, and visual conceptualization skills.
