This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title 1 school with many needs. With the support of the community and staff we assist and encourage our students reach their individual goals and surpass any negative factors. My class consists of 1st and 2nd grade students with a wide range of learning levels. Most students are far below grade level and require direct adult support or guidance to accomplish grade level tasks. I begin each lesson by motivating and encouraging them to do their best. Students know there will be a celebration at the end of the lesson as long as they truly try. This results in teamwork and a mutual desire to be successful not only as an individual but as a class. My class consists of 13 incredible students that despite their disabilities of Orthopedic Impairment, Specific Learning Disabilities, Autism, or Developmental Delay come to school every day eager to learn. My students try to reach their goals every day.
Our class motto is "It is ok not to know, but its not ok not to try".
My Project
With the support of the tablets and a listening center I will be able to effectively establish independent centers where the students may work at their individual speed and academic level. My students will significantly benefit from the independent learning centers by having access to apps that focus on improving reading comprehension and fluency, reviewing math facts as well as exploring the world around them.
The tablets and listening center will serve as essential academic tools that not only may captivate their attention, but also make them excited about learning, tackling their challenges and ultimately reaching their goals.
Furthermore the listening center will provide students with an opportunity to be exposed to new vocabulary, review previous lessons and serve as a model of proficient fluency. I also look forward to use the independent centers, as a positive incentive when a challenging task is assigned or a student needs some independent time to deescalate misbehavior.
