Independent reading material for at risk students

Help me give my students high interest reading material to improve their literacy! I have been put in charge of a new class for struggling readers and need high interest books.

My Students

I work at a rural school where most of my students come from at-risk homes and their families have not gone to college, or in some cases, haven’t finished high school. I have no classroom sets of books or textbooks. It's also a struggle to get classroom supplies. Normally we have one hundred dollars for the whole year towards supplies.I have one case of paper. It's a challenge.

I want to create a classroom environment for these kids with material that will engage them in activities that will grow their confidence through improved skills.

My students are energetic and curious. They deserve quality reading materials to foster that energy in learning and most of them can't afford their own school supplies.

My Project

I teach in a school without a secondary library for my students. I do not have a classroom budget. I have done my best to build a classroom library of high interest books for teens.

This next trimester I am teaching a new literacy class for our lowest readers.

I need additional independent reading books to supplement what I have. Independent reading is proven to be one of the best strategies to help improve their literacy skills.

One of the great joys of teaching is helping students find a book they can truly engage with. Your contribution can make that happen.Thanks you.
