This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are dreamers. Every day I go to work it’s to help them reach their goals and achieve everything they aspire to achieve. My students are all English Language Learners with the ability and motivation to learn English and succeed academically. The vast majority of my students are from low-income households and have been able to access technology such as computers and tablets for the first time ever at our school. Our ESL curriculum is 100% digital allowing my students to be engaged and interested in the content. My students love to read and feel so accomplished when they are able to read more and more.

My Project

My students have been using iLit for two years and have demonstrated great growth in their English Language Development as well as Literacy Skills. iLit is a computer-based literacy curriculum. The program is excellent affording them the ability to access thousands of books digitally. Unfortunately, not all of my students have access to technology outside of school. Having physical books to read for fun at home would greatly benefit my students' achievement and encourage independent reading. Reading is extremely beneficial to developing language skills and having the opportunity to read at home for fun at grade level will give my students the opportunity to achieve.
