This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Over the years I have worked hard to build up a diverse classroom library. It has a variety of genres and character book bins. The children love to sit and read the pictures and tell the stories. Library time is great.
The one area of my library that really needs help is the independent reading leveled book bins.
My students would benefit from a First Little Readers Complete Library, and different sets of fiction and non-fiction books levels A-C.
Independent reading improves comprehension for students and helps them develop their vocabulary. Also, quiet independent reading can improve fluency by allowing students regular time to practice reading.
If my classroom had an ample supply of level A-C fiction and non-fiction books, I am sure their independent reading levels would improve throughout the year.
I look forward to the day I can set up this part of my library and share it with my students.
