Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

When you think of high school students, you often don't think of them as voracious readers. Some of my students devour book after book. Some have never found a book that they liked because they were never presented with options. Some of my students just can't find the time to unwind with a good book in their busy high school schedules. However, by the end of each year, even my most reluctant readers find something that hooks them.

My goal is to implement independent reading book clubs in class.

By designating a specific time, IN CLASS, for students to read what they want, I am hoping to build a love for reading. By providing them a safe space to explore their interests, I am hoping to break down the walls that so many students have put up, which often result in them feeling they aren't good readers. I want to change these stigmas and self-fulfilling prophecies for my students.
