This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a low economic background where their neighborhood is surrounded by negativity, crime and violence. Somehow my students manage to come to school everyday despite their current rural surroundings. My school is a safe haven for all the children in the community where they can come and feel safe and know that each person in the building loves each of them whole-heartily. Majority of my students are more than two grade levels behind and need additional material in order to build them up to their rightful grade level. Based on the current data students require additional phonics practice to build them up to their current grade level.

My Project

My students need 4 CD players and read along books in order to increase their fluency and comprehension in their Independent Listening and Novel Studies Centers. During differentiated instructional groups students are grouped together according to their reading level. Students who are not on grade level will each be assigned a single book for 2 weeks and will focus on comprehension questions that will help build on their knowledge of the standards and fluency in reading. Students who are on grade level will be assigned a novel for the nine weeks to read along with rigorous standard- driven comprehension questions that allows students to use their strategies to answer Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) styled questions successfully. Students will work collaboratively to gain understanding of the standards.
