This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are English Language Learners. My school district is a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom due to economic status and English language deficits. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students love to read, learn, and love lots of positive attention.

From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic success.

My Project

The materials would make a difference in my students learning by providing them extra practice in the standards and skills that are being taught. These games and books will help them practice in a fun way. They need engaging activities that make learning rhyming, sight words, and word building meaningful and fun. When students are engaged with the information that is being taught and practiced it becomes part of their long term memory. When the students are given activities to practice independently they are able to practice at whatever level they are at and build those higher level skills needed.
