My students have a desire to be independent and experience new things. I deliver content area instruction, as well as remediate based on individual student needs. For the next school year, I have been tasked with a resource classroom for special education. Students will come to the classroom daily for 45 minutes to work on reading and math skill deficits.
Many students with special needs are visual learners.
They can acquire a skill faster when it is modeled for them and they are able to practice the skill. Students who read a book with someone or a program are able to comprehend the book, as well as hear the correct way to pronounce an unfamiliar word. Giving students with special needs these tools can greatly increase their ability to keep up with their grade level peers.
Kids these days are all about technology. Computers and tablets are everywhere. This project would help fund a technology need for a resource classroom for special education. With technology, students can work on skill deficits independently, but with monitoring.
Giving special needs students technology allows them to learn and practice a skill independently.
Special needs students are very visual and most often require repetitive teaching. Having a computer or tablet for learning gives them a tool for learning and practicing, as well as gives them an opportunity to learn and practice independently. For students, the use of technology is always fun and most of them do not realize that they are learning as they use it.
