Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Children need to apply all of the information that they take in during the school day. Currently I am teaching in a Special Education Support room for grades 3-5. The school I work at is in an urban setting and these children really need a lot of support and care to succeed. The students I work with are anywhere from a grade to three grades below grade-level.
The children I work with are brought into my small classroom for a big portion of their day. The room that I work with does not have a lot of resources for them to apply what they have learned during the lessons. These students have showed how much they like using hands on manipulative's to enforce their learning process. The children have asked if I would write for more "fun games" as they say. What they don't realize is how much the centers will help them learn.
The items that I have chosen are based on what my students have asked for. I have chosen different types of independent reading activities that they can do. One of them is a hand held quiz game that works on vocabulary. The rest of the items are reading activities that they can do individually to work on their vocabulary, sentence structure and reading comprehension. If you look through the list they are folder activities with manipulative's. magnet activities, and other games that have fun pieces for them work with.
Your help will ensure that my students will succeed in the fundamentals of reading. These are the children that need to see reading in a different way to help them understand why it is important to learn.
