My Students

Our students are amazing! They are unique in every way. Twenty percent of our student population has special needs. Thirty percent of our school is on the free/reduced price food program. Some live on their own, others in group homes and a few are living in campgrounds while continuing to complete their High School Diploma. These students are fighting an uphill battle from the start but continue to work toward their goals. We are located about an hour outside of the Denver Metro Area. Our school is located in a small mountain community that struggles with having jobs available to families. Our students are working on basic life skills to keep them safe and able to care for themselves more independently.

My Project

Our students carry a lot of items such as medical supplies and other items that help them to become more independent. The wear and tear on a backpack of a student with severe needs is harsh. Our students can't afford to replace the battered backpacks. We sew, duck tape and pin what we can. Some of the backpacks are so worn that at times we get very concerned about the medical equipment. Our students need to have backpacks that are in good condition. Medical equipment is very expensive and can't be replaced as easily as a backpack. Please help us!
