Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at my school are all referrals from either Child Protective Services or the Juvenile Justice System and have experienced some type of physical or emotional trauma. Many have missed a large amount of school class time, for various reasons, and are having to make up the missed time in a condensed time period. The quickest way for the students to make connections to the subject matter is visually and resources here are limited. Without a Smart Board or high quality projector, color prints are the next best option to promote student growth and understanding.
My Project
History is best seen in color, even if the the original photo is black and white. Having the ability to compare and contrast historical black and white photos with modern color photos helps students make connections with how events of the past can still have meaning for their lives and the decisions they make today. Our school only has the resources for one (1) black and white printer, in an adjacent building, meaning we cannot take an impromptu student idea or question and immediately address the query in color for all to see and discuss. This so-called Project will be a year-long endeavor to improve day to day classroom content and will include having the ability for the students to produce learning products in color.
