This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are learners who thrive on the latest technology. They are exploring lots of different types of books and are in the process of becoming readers. A great way to keep them interested in reading is by giving them the opportunity to hear and read books electronically through Speakaboos.

Many of the students don't have print-rich home environments.

The school strives to provide a learning-rich environment so that our students will be capable of performing in the real world. They are enthusiastic learners and want to read what other students are reading. They need frequent exposure to literature so that they can improve their reading skills.

My Project

The students will use Speakaboos to supplement their classroom reading curriculum. The new Speakaboos iPad app will be loaded onto each iPad in our iPad carts. The stories are a fun and engaging way to develop students reading, writing, and speaking abilities while learning the basics of the computer. A great way for students to practice fluency is by using the Record Your Own Story Feature. It is also great for struggling readers who can listen for mistakes that they might make during reading. Older students could also use the feature to make recordings for the younger students to enjoy.

Students that are immersed in literature are more likely to become lifelong learners.

This project will add another dynamic of interest for student engagement. Students on all reading levels will gain from using the Speakaboos digital reading program.
