Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are excited to learn. They all come to my class on all different levels of understanding education. However, they can all learn. My classroom just needs to adapt to their learning style and creativity.

My name is Kyla Warden I am a first year teacher, teaching 6th grade within an elementary school.

I am asking for materials to increase students engagement. My students come into my classroom with such excitement to learn, however, when it comes time for group work our supplies are limited. My Students like to add detail and be creative. I serve at a school with 75% Hispanic population followed by Native American and African American students. Our school is a title one school and my section of 6th grade was recently added. My students are fired up and ready to learn they need to resources to achieve and conquer their goals. My students who would normally be transitioning into a middle school will now be staying at an elementary school. This will create challenges with my students, however I plan to create a mature environment and hold them to high expectations. Allowing them to explore their creative side as well as holding them responsible will invest them in their learning.

My Project

This is the exciting part. My students love to create group projects focusing on literature and math. with these materials they will be able to be creative and have extra resources. I am also using the materials to increase students engagement. right now during work time and review time I have to walk to each student to make sure they are on track and have the correct answer with the white boards it will allow me to get a quick response and spend more time helping those who missed the question instead of walking to every student. The final intervention material I am asking for will allow my high rigor students to engage in material on their own while I attended to those needing extra instruction.

This project like many others will create a change in my classroom by allowing students to be completely invested in their work because they are constantly being held accountable.

Over the summer I was able to borrow white boards and in truly changed the students engagement when they were out. I have seen these interventions in action and they work.
