My Students

Were you one of those students that had trouble reading? Maybe you just didn't enjoy it or maybe you struggled with reading the words. My class of learning disabled students all struggle with reading. My goal is to use technology to help encourage them to read, read, read!

Students in my classroom are part of a lower economic community.

Many students come from a nearby Native American reservation. Most of the students take advantage of the free or reduced breakfast and lunch program. Their families are struggling financially and sometimes lack things such as books and supplies that their children need to succeed. Additionally, my students are part of the special education program. They all have a learning disability which impacts their abilities in Reading, Writing, and Math. They are all completely capable of succeeding in school and going on to college one day, they just need to be taught in a different way than their general education peers.

My Project

My plan is to use 4 iPods to inspire my students to want to read. Initially, the ipods will be used in a center. After meeting with me in their reading groups, the students will move to the fluency center where they will read their book into an iPod. The students can then play it back and listen to how they read and make goals for improvement for the next day. Additionally, I can listen to the recordings to monitor their progress. After this center is set up, I would like to add more iPods and a Mac computer so that students can create pod casts with recordings of books, their own book reports and other projects.

This project could really change a lot for my students.

By engaging them more with technology, they will develop a love for learning - which is really the greatest gift anyone could give a child.
