My Project
My name is Brandi Moore and I am an occupational therapist at six public schools in the Atlanta Public School system. Due to me being an independent contractor, I often have to supply myself with materials. I have such a large caseload and the needs of my students and students everywhere are extremely significant. There are children in 4th and 5th grade who struggle with writing and identifying the letters of the alphabet. Many kids are left behind and I have found myself teaching not only handwriting and fine motor skills, but reading and math as well. Students in higher grades are reported to receive low grades during written assignments because the teacher cannot read their writing.
Various items and adaptive equipment are needed to keep the children interested in therapy (handwriting isn't everyone's favorite thing to do) and to target goals that need improvement.
I started off the first half of the year with my own materials, but have found that my children are becoming bored and need more interactive materials to engage in therapy. Most of my students have the motivation and drive to improve, so I would love to provide them with materials that will assist them in doing that.
